i've been working on a catwalk type walk cycle. it's been harder than i thought, hence the large number of attempts (24 so far).
i keep having to completely abandon an attempt and start over. once the motion is wrong, it's just plain wrong. this one is the closest so far. the hip side to side motion is a little smoother than it should. needs more pop. and i don't think the timing and angle on the arms and hands is correct. i didn't even do much with the hair or head. not yet turns out, a models catwalk is a very unnatural motion with a lot of subtlety in timing. it's a wonder they don't fall more often. something i worked a lot on that you can't see from this angle and zoom level is the foot motion; very precise. it was especially hard since poser can't account for heels nor (and this is the big one) does it understand the "ball of the foot" which is where the pivot point should be. this means i have to fool around with a lot of very small Y and Z motions to keep the foot from sliding backwards and forwards and pumping up and down. and coordinated with the toe bending. anyway... this is just a repeating 20 frame animation. i spent a bunch of time spent looking at victoria secret shows (which have the most annoying camera angles and cuts, which makes figuring out the dynamic geometry difficult) and a mirror watching how the body moves in motion. As an aside, anyone notice that the VC fashion shows are, essentially, soft porn? not that there's anything wrong with that but doesn't it seems the least bit odd, considering what you *can't* show on TV? i keep a copy of the full-sized version here and a quicktime movie (mpeg4) version here. |

Don't give up!
It's a motion that deserves to be enjoyed frame-by-frame...

Knowledge is simplicity though. Wisdom is the key. An idiot may know everything the universe will tell, but without the wisdom to use this information, he is still an idiot

The animation is amazing! She walks like a real young woman!
Will you make other animations with different cloths? (ex: Bikini, pants, skirt, sneakers or barefoot)
i think the reason we see so little of it is the commitment to personal change. For instance, i now have flat spot on my forehead from banging my head repeatedly against the wall as i worked through various versions

it's a matter of the motion curve. right now it's a simple sin-wave. it needs to have a steeper slope on the front side so that the hip moves into place quicker when she puts her weight onto it. right now the settling of the weight is too smooth.

and then again from 16 to 17:
the way she caresses her foot with her shin
--or, is it her foot caressing her shin, en passant?
It's like I can almost hear the nylon...
it need to pop into place quicker when she puts her weight on it. the motion is a little too smooth

indeed, i've done the animation with other clothes. a short dress really looks nice. i'll post some when i've tuned the walk cycle.
i used the form fitting short shorts so i could see the subtlety of hip motion.
